Yale College offers both a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Statistics and Data Science. Both degrees equip students with fundamental as well as advanced techniques in statistics, probability, data analysis, and computational methods. The B.A. program is designed to acquaint students with the essential methods in the field, suitable for students planning broad professional or interdisciplinary careers. The B.S. program is more mathematically rigorous and designed for those intending to pursue research or graduate study. Students are encouraged to take courses in their application areas, and exceptionally able students can pursue a simultaneous B.S./M.A. in Statistics. The department emphasizes quantitative reasoning, data analysis, and computational proficiency, which are increasingly essential in the data-driven world. The curriculum covers mathematical foundations, computational skills, and applied statistics/data science methods.
