Yale College, part of Yale University, offers a Bachelor of Arts degree program with a major in art, administered by the School of Art. The program provides broad studio-based training, allowing students to concentrate in painting/printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, photography, or filmmaking. The curriculum includes foundation courses, specialization tracks, and interdisciplinary practice, all connected to art history and theory. Students develop technical proficiency, conceptual understanding, and creative skills across media. The major requires fourteen course credits including five prerequisites (with mandatory Visual Thinking and Basic Drawing), four intermediate and advanced studio courses, a junior seminar, a year-long senior project, and two related courses in art history, film/media studies, or visual culture. Admission to the major requires completion of foundational art courses and a sophomore portfolio review. Detailed guidance and requirements for each concentration are available from the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS).
