Yale College, the undergraduate division of Yale University, offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Art. Students may choose a concentration such as painting/printmaking. The program develops understanding through a studio-based curriculum, applying art fundamentals across a range of media, and relating artistic practice to art history and theory. Students gain proficiency in at least one discipline (such as painting/printmaking), with coursework spanning introductory fundamentals to advanced specialized studios. The curriculum includes general art fundamentals, a Junior Seminar, Senior Project, and art history electives. Studio work is supported by individual and group instruction, engagement with faculty and visiting artists, and access to specialized studios and resources. The prerequisite for acceptance to the major is a portfolio review (Sophomore Review) after completion of introductory courses, including Visual Thinking and Basic Drawing.
