The Yale College Department of Music offers an extensive undergraduate program focused on composition, history, and theory of music, designed to prepare students for professional careers as composers, performers, or scholars, as well as related fields such as arts management, music production, and cognitive psychology. The program emphasizes a humanities-oriented approach and is open to both music majors and non-majors. Performance study for credit is available via special arrangement with the Yale School of Music. For highly accomplished instrumentalists, a selective five-year joint B.A./M.M. program allows students to pair their undergraduate degree with a Master of Music, requiring an additional audition and full-time study at the School of Music in the fifth year.
