The Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design integrates design innovation and ecological integrity with social and environmental justice. The program emphasizes both studio and fieldwork engagement, developing skills from plant identification to advanced design, ecological restoration, environmental policy, and urban sustainability. Students are taught by leading designers and scientists, with opportunities for specialization in advanced design or environmental planning. The MLA prepares graduates for leadership in private practice, public agencies, research, and academia, focusing on tackling the social, cultural, and ecological challenges of the built environment. The program provides two principal tracks: a two-year track for students with prior degrees in landscape architecture, architecture, or environmental design, and a three-year track for those with degrees in other fields.
