No standalone Master of Arts (Psychology) program is offered by the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Berkeley. The Department of Psychology at UC Berkeley offers a doctoral (PhD) program in Psychology, not a terminal Master's program. Students are admitted directly to the PhD program, where they may earn a master's degree en route, but the program is not structured to admit or graduate students solely for an MA in Psychology. The PhD program features six main research areas: Behavioral and Systems Neuroscience, Clinical Science, Cognition, Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental, and Social-Personality Psychology. The curriculum emphasizes methodological, statistical, and critical thinking skills across psychology research domains, preparing students for independent research careers. Admittance requires prior research experience, a bachelor's degree (not necessarily in psychology), and fulfillment of typical graduate admissions criteria. The GRE is not required for 2025 admissions. International students must submit English proficiency scores.
