The MPP/MSW concurrent degree program at UC Berkeley is jointly offered by the Goldman School of Public Policy and the School of Social Welfare. It is a rigorous, three-year, full-time program designed to prepare leaders for human service agencies and social policy organizations. The curriculum integrates the practical and professional training of the MSW (including significant fieldwork and service-oriented courses) with the analytical and methodological expertise of the MPP (focusing on economics, statistics, policy analysis, and research). Students receive advanced preparation in social work practice, evidence-based policy formulation, and advocacy to tackle complex social challenges such as inequality, health disparities, and aging populations. The program includes a social work field placement that also fulfills the policy internship requirement. Students complete approximately 6 semesters of coursework, fieldwork, and independent projects, obtaining both degrees in less time than if pursued separately.
