The UC Berkeley Concurrent MJ/MA in Journalism and Asian Studies is an intensive graduate program allowing students to earn two master's degrees simultaneously: a Master of Journalism (MJ) and a Master of Arts in Asian Studies (MA). The program is designed to be completed in three years, typically one year less than pursuing each degree separately. Students complete in-depth coursework in journalism, acquiring skills in narrative writing, multimedia, investigative reporting, and data journalism. Their studies in Asian Studies cross both humanities and social sciences, covering the culture, politics, and economies of Asian regions. The curriculum is interdisciplinary and flexible, with individualized mentorship and the requirement to achieve language proficiency relevant to their area of focus. Students graduate prepared for academic, professional, and international careers relating to journalism and Asia-focused scholarship.
