The MSW: Strengthening Children, Youth and Families (SCYF) at UC Berkeley's School of Social Welfare prepares graduates for multi-level social work practice with children, adolescents, and their families. The program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and combines foundational coursework with specialized training. Students complete coursework in evidence-based practice, multi-level intervention, research methods, and a required practicum in agency settings. The SCYF specialization focuses on the needs of younger clients and family systems, integrating direct and indirect practice approaches. Optional credentials, such as the Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Social Work and the Child Welfare Scholars Program, are available to students pursuing advanced skills or state licensure for work in public child welfare agencies.
