The Creative Writing Minor at UC Berkeley allows undergraduate students from any major to pursue structured training in creative writing through an interdepartmental minor. Students complete three approved upper-division creative writing courses and two approved upper-division literature courses, chosen from over thirty different departments that offer them. Courses encompass genres such as fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, dramatic writing, and screenwriting. The minor is designed to expose students to a breadth of literary and creative techniques and is recognized on the student’s transcript (not diploma) upon completion. Courses must be taken for a letter grade, and at least three courses (including two writing courses) must be completed at UC Berkeley. The program is not open as a major and must be declared prior to the last term before graduation.
