The BA in East European/Eurasian Languages and/or Cultures, offered by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at UC Berkeley's College of Letters & Science, focuses on the languages, literatures, and cultures of Russia, other Slavic peoples, and their neighbors in East and Central Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. The program is interdisciplinary, allowing concentrations in language skills, literature, or cultural context, and may encompass Russian, Czech, Polish, Serbian/Croatian, and more. Students may pursue related interdisciplinary field studies such as Russian Area Studies, and coursework integrates history, politics, visual arts, theater, and popular culture. The department’s breadth and interdisciplinary approach complement studies in fields such as History, English, Political Science, and Business. Students benefit from faculty expertise covering topics from medieval to post-socialist eras, as well as innovative program clusters for first-year students.
