The Genetics and Plant Biology major at Rausser College of Natural Resources is a broadly based undergraduate program emphasizing the study of plants from molecular and genetic to whole-organismal levels. Students begin with foundational coursework in biological and physical sciences before progressing to upper-division courses and concentrations. The program offers four elective concentrations: biotechnology and bioenergy; plant diversity and evolution; plant genetics/genomics/bioinformatics; and plant–microbe interactions. Students are encouraged to pursue research, join student groups, engage in academic travel, and participate in honors projects. The curriculum includes core plant biology classes, substantial laboratory work, and exposure to current research methods. The department supports pathways into graduate study, professional schools, and diverse careers in research, clinical, environmental, and technical fields.
