The Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare at UC Berkeley's School of Social Welfare provides a broad-based introduction to America’s social welfare problems and social policies within a social science context. The curriculum focuses on the history and institutions of social work and the welfare state, as well as organized networks of public and private social services. The program is grounded in the liberal arts and does not provide professional training for licensed social work but rather prepares graduates with foundational knowledge for addressing critical social issues, supporting graduate study, or entering the human services workforce. Berkeley Social Welfare graduates often go on to advanced degrees in social welfare, law, counseling, psychology, and related fields, or directly into public service careers.
