UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television’s Producers Program is a two‑year, full‑time MFA that trains students for careers as producers, studio/network executives, agents, and manager‑producers across film, television, and digital media. The first year centers on the three‑quarter Introduction to Producing sequence and seminars in feature/TV development, studio and network management, production planning and budgeting, entertainment law and business practices, international financing and distribution, film festival strategies, and a CMS common course shared by all FTVDM MFA students. Students pitch a slate of at least three projects in spring to help select a thesis project for year two. The curriculum requires core courses such as TV Development, Feature Film Development, Digital Media Producing, Physical Production for Creatives, Entertainment Law & Business Practices, International Finance & Distribution, a Cinema & Media Studies seminar and common course, a required elective outside the Producers Program, and the thesis workshop/career preparation sequence. Many students fulfill the secondary thesis production experience by producing an MFA directing student’s thesis film in the second year.
