UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture’s M.S.AUD is a one‑year, post‑professional program for students who already hold a first professional degree in architecture. The program is described as elastic and genre‑defiant, enabling students to specialize their skills and apply architectural/design thinking to contemporary and emerging real‑world challenges. All students begin in summer session and proceed through a full‑time sequence of advanced studios, technology seminars, critical studies, and a three‑quarter research studio (403A‑B‑C). A typical plan includes summer Advanced Topics Studio (401) plus Technology and Critical Studies seminars, followed by additional Advanced Topics Studios, Technology Seminars, Critical Studies electives, and the Research Studio across fall–spring. The curriculum requires at least three advanced studios, one technology course, one critical studies course, 403A‑403B‑403C, and a minimum of five electives, totaling at least 56 units (≥48 graduate‑level units). The degree’s areas of study include design, technology, and critical studies in architectural culture.
