UCLA’s Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology (IBP) offers a two‑year M.S. program in Physiological Science that emphasizes three components: (1) rigorous laboratory research training with IBP faculty mentors; (2) coursework that deepens knowledge of the scientific method, analytical tools in physiology and biology, and science communication; and (3) training as science educators through course‑based and practical teaching exercises. Graduates pursue careers in research, medicine, and teaching. Students must complete nine courses (36 units), including a second‑level statistics/research design course approved by the department, a 4‑unit graduate molecular biology course, IBP 289A‑289B, and IBP 270A‑270B; at least six courses (24 units) must be at the 200‑level. Prior completion of IBP 111A‑111B (or equivalent) is highly recommended; otherwise, students satisfy physiology requirements via two approved upper‑division electives. All coursework is to be completed by the end of year two.
