UCLA’s Department of Asian Languages & Cultures offers a professional MA focused on pedagogy for Asian languages. The program provides diverse courses on the socio-cultural and linguistic foundations of Asian languages, best practices for teaching and learning, K–16 standards and articulation, assessment methods, and emerging technologies for Asian language teaching. Students specialize in Teaching Chinese, Teaching Japanese, or Teaching Korean, develop advanced language competence in the target language, complete core pedagogy and research-methods coursework, and undertake a three-term supervised teaching practicum. The capstone consists of three projects (papers and/or portfolios of pedagogical materials) evaluated by a faculty committee.
