UCLA’s Department of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Languages and Cultures offers graduate training covering languages, literatures, cultures, and history of Russia, Eastern/Central Europe, and Eurasia, with coursework spanning medieval to 21st century culture, film/media, digital humanities, theory, translation, history, and religion. The department offers both the M.A. and Ph.D.; however, admissions are made for the Ph.D. objective (full-time, daytime classes), with provisions for a terminal M.A. as specified in Graduate Division program requirements. Graduate study includes foundational work in Russian language and literature, with possible concentrations in linguistics or other Slavic/East European languages and literatures subject to course availability and approval. Funding opportunities and research/teaching experiences are available within the broader graduate program context.
