UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture’s Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance offers a B.A. in Dance that integrates learning to dance, dance-making (composition), and critical inquiry into dance as a cultural practice. Students study varied dance forms, complete a four-term composition sequence, participate in creating original works with faculty and visiting artists, and take a core set of courses in scholarly discourse about the body and dance to develop critical analysis and writing. Graduates demonstrate advanced proficiency in at least two movement disciplines, choreograph across contexts and media, analyze dance’s political, cultural, and historical implications, and collaborate effectively.
