UCLA’s Communication major is an interdisciplinary curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Arts that provides comprehensive knowledge of the nature of human communication across multiple levels of analysis, drawing on the natural and social sciences and the humanities. Students take a mix of large lectures and small seminars and may pursue breadth across areas such as mass communication and media studies, interpersonal communication, communication technology and digital systems, and political and legal communication; options include a Computing Specialization, minors, or double majors. The major comprises at least 45 units with 7 lower-division and 10–11 upper-division courses; content evolves and official requirements are maintained alongside the UCLA Catalog. Departmental Honors are available for students meeting GPA and research project criteria. The department emphasizes preparation for a variety of careers and for graduate study in social-science–grounded communication.
