UCLA’s B.S. in Astrophysics applies physics to the cosmos to address the nature, workings, origin, and evolution of the universe. The program builds skills in analytical thinking, problem solving, mathematics, and use of technical scientific equipment and computing. The curriculum includes lower-division preparation in physics, astronomy, mathematics, and computing, followed by upper-division coursework in classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum and statistical physics, and advanced astronomy, plus technical electives. Research opportunities are available within the Physics & Astronomy Department, including undergraduate research programs and labs connected to areas such as stellar dynamics at the Galactic Center and data-intensive astrophysics.
