UCLA’s Human Biology and Society (B.A.) is an application-based interdisciplinary major offered within the Division of Life Sciences through the Institute for Society and Genetics. It integrates biological knowledge about humans with social theory and ethics, preparing students to analyze how biological and social factors interact in health, policy, and society. The B.A. pathway emphasizes the social sciences and humanities side of the curriculum compared to the B.S., while still requiring foundational life science preparation. The major is capacity-limited and highly selective due to demand. Students are admitted as Pre-Human Biology and Society first and then apply to enter the major based on pre-major progress, grades, activities, and personal statements. Reapplication after denial is not permitted. Target cohort size is limited to maintain timely graduation and course access .
