UCLA’s Ecology, Behavior and Evolution (EBE) major examines relationships among living organisms, their behavior, and the evolutionary forces shaping biodiversity. The program emphasizes authentic research training: students are required to complete a Field Biology Quarter (FBQ) or Marine Biology Quarter (MBQ), designing and conducting projects at field stations under faculty mentorship and presenting results, with some undergraduate work published in peer‑reviewed journals. The curriculum draws from Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and allied disciplines, with recommended taxon‑oriented upper-division courses (e.g., EE BIOL 111, 112, 113A, 114A, 115) and defined rules on research units that can count toward the major. Departmental honors options are available based on GPA thresholds and completion of research seminars (EE BIOL 198A & 198B).
