UCLA’s Spanish and Community and Culture B.A. combines hands-on community engagement with study of Spanish language, linguistics, literature, and the cultures of Hispanic-heritage communities in Los Angeles and across the United States. Students strengthen advanced Spanish proficiency, learn to conduct and interpret research, deepen understanding of diversity and cultural differences, and apply these skills through community-based experiential learning courses linked to specific Hispanic communities. The major is a designated capstone major, culminating in fieldwork/internship experiences and reflective projects or presentations that demonstrate learning outcomes. The major is offered within the Division of Humanities and appears among the Humanities undergraduate majors at UCLA. The Department of Spanish & Portuguese lists Spanish Community and Culture as a major program (major only).
