UCLA César E. Chávez Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies offers the BA in Chicana and Chicano Studies as an interdisciplinary major examining the lives, histories, and cultures of Chicana/o/x and broader Latina/o/x communities through social sciences, humanities, and arts approaches. The department researches and analyzes Mexican‑origin people in the U.S. and other Latina/Latino and Indigenous populations in the Americas, with faculty strengths in areas such as Chicana feminism, art history, immigration/undocumented studies, day labor and informal markets, sociolinguistics, and Central American diasporas. The major includes lower-division introductions (e.g., CCAS 10A/10B) and upper-division thematic courses, with options such as an honors track for a year‑long research or creative thesis.
