The Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is designed to prepare students for teaching music in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve. Students can select from four concentrations: Choral Music, General Music, Instrumental Music, and Technology. The curriculum incorporates both theory and practical field experiences throughout four years, leading to licensure for K-12 music education in Illinois. Graduates teach in public and private schools in the U.S. and internationally. Students must complete an audition on their primary instrument and a faculty interview as part of the application process. Teacher licensure candidates must maintain a 2.5 UIUC GPA and earn a C- or better in all required courses.
