The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts & Sciences Major in Classics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign offers students foundational and advanced studies in the Greek and Latin languages, their literatures, and the ancient cultures of Greece and Rome (c. 800 BCE–500 CE). Students acquire detailed knowledge of Greek and Latin grammar and literature, gain facility with methods of literary and historical analysis, and develop a critical awareness of the place of Greek and Latin in Western literary history. The program offers multiple concentrations, including Classical Civilization and Classical Archaeology, providing flexibility in focus.
