The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is an ABET-accredited undergraduate program that combines core engineering skills with biology and agricultural studies. Students start in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and transfer to The Grainger College of Engineering in their junior year. The program offers six concentrations: Bioprocess Engineering and Industrial Biotechnology, Off-Highway Vehicle and Equipment Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems Engineering, Soil and Water Resources Engineering, Sustainable Ecological and Environmental Systems Engineering, and Synthetic Biological Engineering. The degree prepares graduates to address global challenges in food, water, energy, and the environment with an emphasis on designing solutions for sustainable systems. Careers include technology development, alternative energy, environmental control, food systems, and more.
