The Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Florida introduces students to the scientific study of language. The core curriculum covers the theory and structure of human languages, sound systems (phonology), word formation (morphology), sentence structure (syntax), and meaning (semantics). Students also have opportunities for specialized study in psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, corpus and computational linguistics, and language documentation. The program offers both breadth and depth, providing a foundation for further study or diverse careers related to language, teaching, research, technology, and more. Electives allow for customization in subfields, as well as the opportunity to fulfill a foreign language requirement using a non-Romance, non-Germanic language such as Arabic, Japanese, or Chinese.
