Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering offers a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering (BS MSE), accredited by ABET. The curriculum combines rigorous foundational courses (structure, properties, thermodynamics, mechanics, electronics of materials), hands-on laboratory experience, and specialized tracks in biomaterials and nanotechnology. Students complete a minimum of 125 credits, including 42 credits in materials science coursework and foundational studies in mathematics, basic sciences, engineering, and humanities/social sciences. The program emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of materials, preparing students to develop new materials, optimize processing techniques, and understand materials’ roles in biological systems. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in industry or further study.
