The BSc International Relations and Chinese at LSE is a joint honours undergraduate degree combining theoretical and applied study of international relations with intensive Mandarin Chinese language study. The programme has a particular focus on China's role as a global actor, with students becoming proficient in Mandarin. Students spend years 1, 2, and 4 at LSE, and the entire 3rd year at Fudan University, Shanghai, where they study further international relations courses and immerse themselves in Chinese society. The curriculum balances 'learning by doing' (fieldwork, practical challenges, research), language acquisition, and analytical and empirical studies in global politics, supported by specialists from LSE's Language Centre and Department of International Relations. Graduates are positioned for careers requiring understanding of global politics and Mandarin proficiency.
