The MA English Literary Studies at the University of York Department of English and Related Literature (2025 entry) offers a flexible curriculum that allows students to explore a wide range of literature across different periods and genres. Students choose from diverse modules according to their interests—ranging from poetry and drama to gender studies, postcolonialism, film, and beyond. The program fosters critical and theoretical engagement, research skill development and culminates in a substantial independent dissertation (15,000–20,000 words). Supervised by world-leading scholars, students engage with vibrant research communities, seminars, conferences, and reading groups. The MA provides a strong foundation for doctoral study or careers in teaching, publishing, journalism, arts administration and related fields.
