The Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies at Underwood International College (UIC), Yonsei University, is an interdisciplinary program housed in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) Division. The curriculum begins with 'Introduction to Asian Studies' in the first year, followed by advanced courses in literature, history, and philosophy, and nine major electives selected from a broad spectrum of fields. All instruction is in English. Students are required to study a regional language (Korean for non-heritage students; Chinese or Japanese for heritage speakers), and are strongly encouraged to spend at least one semester abroad at a partnered Asian Studies program. The fourth year centers on a research seminar where students may write a full-length thesis. The program aims to provide rigorous training in critical reading, writing, and intercultural understanding, preparing graduates for careers in academia, NGOs, government, and multinational sectors.
