The MSc in Medical Data Science (MScMDS) at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is designed to train professionals in the medical and health domains to address modern challenges using computational, data-driven approaches. The program develops skills for formulating biological and medical problems into computational tasks, integrates multimodal omics data (e.g., sequence, image, text), and trains students to develop efficient data analytic systems for medical applications such as disease modeling, risk prediction, and therapeutic strategizing. Targeted at candidates with backgrounds in health, life sciences, information technology or data science, the program fills the increasing demand for expertise in medical data analytics brought by the rapid advances in AI, genomics, and biomedicine. The curriculum requires 31 credits, including a compulsory research methods subject, core courses in bioinformatics, genomics, data sciences, and electives.
