This advanced programme provides rigorous intellectual training in modern Chinese linguistics, focusing on the language situation in Hong Kong and its professional relevance. It equips students with both up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge to address complex linguistic issues, especially those encountered by professional users of Chinese in Hong Kong. The curriculum includes a foundation in topics such as word and sentence description, phonology, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, language education, translation, and research methods, supported by both compulsory and elective courses. The programme offers mixed-mode study (full-time/part-time) with a total of 31 credits to be completed for graduation.
