The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Work at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University prepares students with a solid foundation in social science and professional social work knowledge. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical fieldwork, equipping graduates with analytical abilities, professional competence, empathy, and a humanitarian orientation. Students gain exposure to core areas such as social structure, social theory, and various social work domains (e.g., aging, child protection, youth, criminal justice, schools, gender). Professional recognition is granted—graduates are eligible for registration with the Social Workers Registration Board (RSWB) as Registered Social Workers (RSWs). Placement opportunities are available both locally and internationally. Senior-year students complete 64–68 credits within 2 years, with the curriculum including integrative electives, social science electives, a capstone project, and 400–800 hours of fieldwork, as required for professional registration. Normal (4-year) entrants complete a broader foundational year and select their major after the first year.
