The program provides advanced study in theories and methods of second language teaching, learning, and assessment. It covers how children and adults learn a second language and prepares students to plan curricula and conduct research relevant to second language education. The MA in Second Language Acquisition offers professional development in three specializations (Teaching Chinese, Portuguese or English as a Second Language), practical and theoretical coursework, and the opportunity to complete either an academic or applied thesis. Courses are taught in English, Chinese, or Portuguese, depending on the chosen track; thesis may be written in any of these languages.
