The Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau, is designed to develop students’ proficiency in the Japanese language and an in-depth understanding of Japanese culture and society. The program systematically trains students in Japanese language skills from beginner to advanced levels, and includes content courses on Japanese culture, society, and business. Courses in the first two years are led by multilingual instructors, with conversation classes taught exclusively by native Japanese teachers. Content courses at advanced levels are taught in Japanese. The program fosters intercultural competence through summer programs and a one-year exchange program to partner universities in Japan. Students also participate in activities with native speakers to enhance practical language abilities. Graduates are prepared for careers in government, Japanese companies, tourism, finance, hospitality, and can pursue further study. Completion requires 129 credits and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. The medium of instruction is Japanese. No prior knowledge of Japanese is required for admission.
