UCL’s Biochemical Engineering BEng integrates engineering with biotechnology, giving hands-on experience via lectures, state-of-the-art practical training facilities, and scenario-based learning across areas such as biopharmaceutical process development and sustainability of biofuels. The programme builds to a Year 3 Design Project where students design a biopharmaceutical manufacturing process, including facility design and techno‑economic evaluation. The curriculum combines discipline-specific biochemical engineering, common engineering elements through the Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP), and a Minor chosen across the Faculty in Years 2–3. All Year 1 modules are compulsory; IEP Minor modules are selected at the end of Year 1 for Years 2–3. Students may reassess BEng/MEng route towards the end of Year 2.
