Cornell University's Bachelor of Science in Science of Earth Systems (SES) offered by the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences equips students to address urgent global challenges such as climate change, energy, minerals, and water resources. The SES program is interdisciplinary, covering the interactions between the ocean, solid earth, atmosphere, and biosphere, and allows students to specialize (e.g., geophysics, biogeochemistry) or gain broad expertise across earth system components. Students participate actively in fieldwork (minimum 3 credits), research projects, and can select one of several concentrations: Environmental Science, Geological Science, Atmospheric Science, and Ocean Science. Graduates are prepared for careers in academia, government, the private sector, and graduate study, especially in fields related to energy, environment, and public policy. The program features small classes with personalized faculty mentorship, and abundant hands-on field research in diverse global and local locations.
