The Human Biology, Health, and Society (HBHS) major at Cornell University's College of Human Ecology permits students to combine their interests in the biological sciences while exploring issues in human health from biological, behavioral, and social perspectives. The program covers topics such as biology and behavior, metabolism and genetics, growth and development, food and health policy, and health promotion. Students develop a strong background in biology and chemistry, with additional courses in organic chemistry, physiology, biochemistry, physics, calculus, and social sciences. The multidisciplinary curriculum prepares students for advanced study and careers in health professions, biomedical research, public health, health policy, and related fields. Experiential learning opportunities (e.g., research, field experience, study abroad) are available. The major is offered by the Division of Nutritional Sciences and includes core courses such as NS 1400 (Introduction to Human Biology, Health, and Society), a survey course in nutrition (NS 1150 or NS 1220), and selectives in social science perspectives on health.
