Princeton University’s Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) is rooted in a rigorous liberal arts curriculum designed to develop broad intellectual skills and deep expertise in a chosen field. All undergraduates pursue a liberal arts education, which encourages exploration across disciplines before students declare a concentration (major) in the spring of their sophomore year. Students can select from 37 different concentrations (majors) and over 50 certificate programs interlinking fields such as humanities, social sciences, arts, and natural sciences. The curriculum emphasizes close faculty engagement, critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication. Students take general education courses in writing and foreign language the first years, followed by focused study and independent research or creative work in their chosen area. The programs prepare graduates for diverse careers and lifelong learning.
