Duke University's School of Nursing offers a distance-based Master of Science in Nursing (Neonatal Nurse Practitioner) program designed for experienced registered nurses seeking advanced expertise in neonatal intensive care. The NNP MSN curriculum provides specialized training in advanced pathophysiology, health assessment, diagnostic reasoning, clinical pharmacology, and care management for critically ill and high-risk infants, from birth through age two, and their families. Coursework combines interactive online learning, five required campus sessions for skills intensives, and clinical practice experiences at approved sites near the student's residence—leveraging Duke’s global network of more than 2,000 partner facilities. Students join a small, supportive cohort and learn from expert, accessible faculty. The program prepares graduates for NNP board certification and leadership in neonatal care teams, quality improvement initiatives, and family-centered healthcare, consistently demonstrating excellent board pass rates and job placement. Nationally ranked #3 among nursing master's programs for 2025 (U.S. News).
