The Master of Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality (MPSHQ) at Duke-NUS Medical School, jointly with Duke University and the National University of Singapore (NUS), is the first program of its kind in Southeast Asia. The curriculum comprises 8 courses and a thesis course totaling 40 academic units. It is designed to equip healthcare professionals with advanced skills in developing, managing, and evaluating high-reliability healthcare systems, focusing on reducing medical errors, improving patient outcomes, and fostering a strong culture of safety and quality. The training emphasizes systems engineering, human factors, and clinical improvement, blending evidence-based and data-driven methodologies to transform clinical care systems. Graduates build capabilities in leadership, stakeholder engagement, and the implementation of patient safety initiatives, in response to a growing demand for quality and safety leadership in Singapore and the region. The inaugural cohort graduated in 2025, marking a strategic milestone in health education.
