The Bachelor of Science in Marine Science and Conservation at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment is a flexible, interdisciplinary undergraduate major. Students engage deeply with ocean sciences and maritime communities through both natural and social sciences. The program includes a foundational gateway course and several core courses, and most students spend at least one term at the Duke Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, North Carolina. The major allows students to develop a unique curriculum, accommodating interests ranging from oceanography and conservation to molecular biology and economics. Hands-on field experiences are emphasized, with research opportunities and participation at the Duke Marine Lab. The major is designed for students who intend to become leaders in marine science, conservation, marine policy, or related fields.
