The University of Arizona’s Master of Arts in Special Education: Visual Impairment (MA) is a nationally recognized graduate program designed to prepare professionals to educate and provide services to children who are visually impaired (TVI). The curriculum equips students with the necessary skill set to help students with visual impairments succeed academically and socially. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments, vocational rehabilitation counselor, early childhood specialist, and related positions. The program is available both in-person at the Tucson campus and online, providing flexibility for distance learners. Courses cover a range of topics including special services, assistive technology, literacy development for blind/low vision students, orientation and mobility, and more. Practicum experience and Braille proficiency is also required. The program is highly regarded, with many graduates employed in school districts, special schools, and agencies across Arizona and the wider United States.
