The BA/MPP at the University of California San Diego is a five-year joint program offered by the Department of Economics and the School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS). UCSD undergraduates majoring in Economics are eligible to integrate graduate-level public policy coursework into their senior (fourth) year, then complete a fifth year as a full-time graduate student at GPS to earn the Master of Public Policy. Curriculum emphasizes micro- and macroeconomics, econometrics, policy analysis, public finance, politics of policymaking, regulatory and legal frameworks, and advanced analytical skills (e.g., GIS, remote sensing). Students specialize in a policy area and undertake a substantial research capstone. The program is rigorous, suited for those aiming for leadership in public, private, or nonprofit sectors with global policy fluency.
