The Master of Science in NanoEngineering program at the Jacobs School of Engineering, UC San Diego, provides advanced multidisciplinary education focused on the underlying scientific, technical, and engineering challenges of nanotechnology. Students receive rigorous instruction in fundamental nanoscale chemistry, physics, materials, and interface science, and can concentrate in areas such as biomedical nanotechnology, nanomaterials, or nano-enabled energy and environmental solutions. The program is designed either as a terminal master’s degree or as preparation for a doctoral program. Students may choose between the Thesis Plan I, which involves research and thesis defense, and the Comprehensive Examination Plan II, which focuses on coursework and exams. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in emerging high-tech and traditional industries leveraging nanoscale phenomena.
