The BA in Anthropology (Archaeology) at UC San Diego focuses on understanding the origins, development, and diversity of past societies using archaeological methods and interdisciplinary approaches. Students will learn the theoretical foundations of archaeology, region-specific content (including Latin America, Asia, and Oceania), and participate in hands-on fieldwork or research in laboratories. The curriculum combines comparative introductory and advanced theoretical courses, field school opportunities (in locations such as Jordan and Peru), and study-abroad options. Students gain practical skills with state-of-the-art archaeological laboratories and can work on collections, field methods, GIS, and data analysis. The program prepares graduates for further study or careers in research, cultural resource management, heritage, or museum studies.
