The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a concentration in Sociocultural Anthropology at UC San Diego provides students with a comprehensive understanding of human societies, cultures, and institutions, both past and present. Emphasizing comparative and theoretical frameworks, students gain insights into the diversity and commonality of human life worldwide. The curriculum covers core anthropological theory, methods, and a broad selection of regional and topical courses—preparing graduates for fields such as law, education, health, public service, and international relations. The program requires at least twelve upper-division anthropology courses (including core courses ANTH 101, 102, 103; four sociocultural courses with the ANSC prefix; and five electives across anthropology fields). Unique aspects include options for field/lab experiences, internships, study abroad, and a senior thesis.
